Upcoming Film Festivals!
Here at Crystal Ignition we strive to provide our readers with resources to help you all become the best filmmakers you can be. We wanted to take a moment to highlight some exciting opportunities our readers might be interested in. First up we have a major festival upcoming in December that we highly recommend our readers submit their films to. The BreakOut Music, Movie, & Media (BOM) Film Festival is still accepting submissions for its December 7th event date. Hosted at the London West Hollywood Hotel in Beverly Hills California, this event features categories for artists of all flavors and a cash prize! You can find more information at the festivals FilmFreeway page.
We’re also excited to announce that our friends over at the L.O.V.E Coalition have re-opened submissions for the Through Our Lenses LGBTQ Film Series. They have one single category for films that focus on human rights, LGBTQ+ topics, gender identity, racism, women, and African-Americans. The submission deadline is September 20th but we highly encourage everyone to submit their film and attend the event. Visit the festivals FilmFreeway page for more information.
September’s Book of The Month!
Last but not least we have our book of the month for September 2024. This month the studio is recommending Careers in Media and Film: The Essential Guide by Georgina Gregory, Ros J. Healy, and Ewa Mazierksa. Packed full of interviews and advice from professional filmmakers in the United Kingdom, this book provides new filmmakers with the insights and tools necessary to find employment and enjoy a wonderful career in the film industry no matter where you are in the world or what education you may or may not have. While this book is over a decade old the advice contained within is still well worth the read and we highly recommend this book to new filmmakers whether you went to film school or not. As usual this book can be purchased from our affiliate partners at Books-A-Million using our link if you’d like to support the studio.
And that takes us to the end of our September blog post! Thank you all so much for reading and we’ll see you all next month for our next update. Have a good day or night wherever you are and stay safe!
